Frequently Asked Questions

What's different about YourEyeSurgery?

The specialist eye consultants and clinics represented by YourEyeSurgery offer personal one-to-one care. They operate in registered hospitals and use the latest, proven laser technology and techniques. In addition to laser, our consultants provide a full range of refractive procedures to benefit most individuals. Each practice has clear, all-inclusive pricing. The price you pay will not vary with your strength of your prescription and includes everything a patient needs to achieve their best possible vision. YourEyeSurgery consultants realise your sight is precious and offer you advice about your eye care that is specific to you.

Is laser vision correction safe?

Yes, very. It is important to remember that laser eye treatment, like any surgical procedure does carry some risks. Typically these risks are minor and the complication rate is very low. At consultation our consultants will be happy to discuss likely outcomes, potential complications or concerns with you.

How will I know which treatment is right for me?

Prior to treatment all patients undergo a thorough consultation with the ophthalmologist. A detailed sight test and eye examination is performed, along with mapping and scanning of your eye. Once these measurements have been taken and reviewed the consultant will consider your refractive and medical history. Along with your circumstances and visual requirements to enable him to advise you which treatment would best suit you.

I have enquired about laser vision correction before and another centre told me I was unsuitable. Is there anything I can do?

It depends why you were found to be unsuitable. At YourEyeSurgery our consultant ophthalmologists are used to dealing with more complex cases, unlike some other centres. Our laser technology enables us to treat a wide range of refractive errors and we can also provide alternative procedures for patients not suitable for laser. The next step would be to contact us directly.

Is laser eye treatment permanent, or will I need glasses again?

Yes. Internationally there has been over 20 years of successful results for laser vision correction, all indications show that once the eye has stabilised the treatment is a permanent correction. The eye will still continue to age normally, possibly resulting in the need for reading glasses in later life.

Who is suitable for laser vision correction?

Patients considering laser vision correction should be over 21 years old and have a stable prescription. Typically, individuals should be in good health and have a good standard of vision in both eyes, whilst wearing glasses or contact lenses. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should wait 6 months before considering treatment. Your prescription needs to be within our treatable range. Simply contact us with your last spectacle or contact lens prescription for advice, or if you have any other queries regarding suitability for laser vision correction, or alternative procedures.

Can I have both eyes treated at the same time?

Yes. Laser eye treatment is typically performed on both eyes, one after the other, on the same day.

Does laser eye treatment hurt?

No. During all procedures drops are used to numb your eyes, however you may feel some pressure on your eyelids. Depending on the type of treatment you have, some patients might experience a slight ‘gritty’ sensation in their eye, and/or some sensitivity to light for a short time.

What is a Wavefront treatment?

Wavefront is a far more accurate and personalised laser correction, which treats the unique imperfections of your eye. These cannot be measured with a normal sight test or treated with conventional procedures. It offers each patient the potential to not just discard their glasses and contact lenses but to improve the quality and standard of their vision, especially at night. Every patient is evaluated to see if they could benefit from a wavefront procedure.

What is a zLASIK?

zLASIK means that creating the LASIK flap - as well as performing the LASIK treatment - is carried out with a laser. Other names for zLASIK are all-laser LASIK and blade-free LASIK. In traditional LASIK, a surgical blade (microkeratome) is used to create the flap. Using a laser to create the flap is more beneficial for for your vision, is a safer procedure and is the latest step in ensuring your laser vision surgery is the best it can possibly be.
